What Sidelit is

Sidelit is a perspective tool. It is not therapy, counseling, medical advice, or a crisis resource. If you are in distress or danger, please contact a qualified professional or emergency services.

What we collect

When you use Sidelit without an account, we generate a temporary device fingerprint to enforce session rate limits. If a fingerprint is unavailable, we fall back to your network IP address for the same purpose. These identifiers are used only for rate limiting, are not linked to any personal information, are not used for advertising or tracking across other apps or services, and are not persisted beyond what is necessary for rate limiting.

When you create an account, we collect:

• A unique sign-in ID assigned by Apple or Google — not your name or email address
• Session content you submit, to generate angles and build context across sessions
• Usage metadata (session count, timestamps) to enforce tier limits

Session text is processed to generate angles. It is not stored beyond what is needed to maintain context across your sessions, and only while your account is active.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect payment card data (handled by Apple or Google)
• We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to third parties
• We do not use your session content to train AI models
• We do not build behavioral profiles for advertising purposes

How we use your information

We use your information to deliver the product: generate angles, maintain session context, enforce rate limits, process subscriptions, and communicate with you about your account. We use aggregated, non-identifying analytics to understand how the product is used and improve it.

Third-party processors

Sidelit uses a limited set of third-party services to operate:

• Amazon Web Services: infrastructure and AI processing
• Neon: database hosting
• Apple and Google: authentication and subscription billing
• PostHog: product analytics (aggregated, non-identifying)

Each processor is bound by data processing agreements. We do not share your personal information with parties outside this list for marketing or commercial purposes.

Data retention and deletion

If you delete your account, your personal data and session content are permanently and immediately deleted. Anonymized aggregate analytics are not associated with you and are retained for product improvement.

We retain data while your account is active.

Children

Sidelit is not intended for users under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@sidelit.app and we will delete it promptly.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@sidelit.app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notice and posted on this page. Continued use of Sidelit after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
